Thallic chlorobromides

Thallic chlorobromides, TlClBr2.4H2O and TlCl2Br.4H2O, have been prepared by Thomas by the action of bromine on thallous chloride suspended in water, and of chlorine on thallous bromide suspended in water, the solutions being concentrated to a syrupy consistency at 30° to 40°, and then strongly cooled. The hydrated salts cannot be dehydrated without loss of halogens occurring. The hydrates combine with one molecular proportion of hydrogen chloride or bromide, but the compounds formed have not been obtained in the crystalline state.
