Thallic nitrate, Tl(NO3)3

Thallic nitrate, Tl(NO3)3, is prepared by dissolving thallic oxide in nitric acid. It separates from an acid solution in large, colourless, transparent, deliquescent crystals which contain 3H2O. The salt is readily hydrolysed by water, and is easily decomposed by heat.

The double salt potassium thallic nitrate, K2Tl(NO3)5.H2O, readily crystallises from a solution of the mixed nitrates in nitric acid (R. J. Meyer).
